The May Momentum Check: Are You Growing Sustainably or Just Getting Busier?
By the end of May, the pace starts to shift.
Summer is on the horizon, and for many practitioners the diary starts to fill more quickly.
May can feel like momentum.
But here’s the important Flow & Flourish question:
Is this momentum sustainable… or is it just making you busier?
1) Busy is not the same as thriving
A thriving practice looks like:
- predictable bookings
- steady income
- protected energy
- clear boundaries
- enough admin space
A busy practice can feel like firefighting.
2) Three signs you’re heading towards burnout
If you notice these creeping in, it’s time to adjust:
1) Constant running late
2) Saying yes when you mean no
3) Income not matching workload
Burnout rarely arrives suddenly.
It builds quietly.
3) Sustainable growth means better structure
If May has brought you more bookings, the worst thing you can do is just “work harder”.
The best thing you can do is use the increased demand to improve the structure:
- raise fees gently
- tighten booking rules
- protect your diary
- create clarity
Demand gives you power — if you use it.
4) A considerate summer plan
Keep weekly capacity realistic.
Build buffers.
Protect at least one true rest day.
Make sure income covers your energy output.
If your May momentum has highlighted that you need a calmer structure, mentoring can help.
